Yeah we like our Instruments Blunt. And we like our tracks done by those instruments. Blunt Instrument remixes the latin classico Sway and does it with glitchy aplomb.
Anyone who has visited the blog more than once will have seen Blunt Instrument's work (HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE) and judging by the reaction, has liked each track.
Check out the track, check out the other sounds from Blunt Instrument and hang out on their Soundcloud page for more great tunes. There's also rumorings that they'll be in the States soon for a tour. Let's hope that comes out to be true!

Ben Samples is ALWAYS the Life of the Party
Ben Samples is one of my favorite producers out there and when he drops something I am quick to pick it up. Samples has not only dropped a track, but an entire album (found HERE). It not only has the glitch and bass you'd expect from Samples, but now there's 4 tracks to choose from. You'll see how great these offering are when you take a listen. Buying the album makes it even better (again, found HERE).
I was lucky enough to listen to Bred2Party a few months ago and I knew if that track was any indication of how the album would sound, we'd all be in for a treat. Sure enough, listening to the album has indeed reinforced the fact that Bred2Party was just a taste of the great sounds to follow.
Samples has been around for awhile now and one of the stalwarts of the Colorado scene. From radio shows to podcasts he's put glitch on the map and instead of fading out he keeps producing great sounds. Check out Samples' other sounds as well on his Soundcloud page. From remixes and originals they're all bangers.

Asa's Stumbleine re-work
Stumbleine with some added Asa for some afternoon chill? Yeah that's a no-brainer.
We've featured both artists on the blog before and this one deserves a post as well. The vocals and the beat are enough to send your stress on this Monday away.
Enjoy more from Stumbleine and Asa on their respective Soundcloud pages (Asa's and Stumbleine's)

Talib Kweli remix from Russia
Talib Kweli is a boss. In everything he does, he's a boss. So when he gets remixed you wonder how good it's going to turn out. Well iBenji, straight out of Russia, took Talib's track Listen and turned it into a screwed and crunk banger.
If this remix doesn't pique your interest enough, take our word for it that his other stuff is worth a listen. Check out his Soundcloud page for his other offerings.
From dubstep to drumstep to glitch, iBenji's all over it.

Late Night Chill
Nights like these alone with a laptop, and needing to get some work done, it's good to have a soundtrack to vibe off of that isn't too heavy or too loud. This track here is enough sonic mellowness to do just that for me.
While the title of the track alone is enough to warrant a listen, the sonic landscape that is painted is great for those who need the expansiveness to feed off of.
Check out Electric Okra's catalogue for more chilled goodness as well as some previews of what he's working on these days.

Polar Snares gets chill
Polar Snares is at it again, and he is getting better and better with each new offering. His last release with Jaggi, Truthful Sight was an absolute gem, and is still on my everyday playlist. Today I would like to point you to his latest, a wonderful glitch hop/drumstep remix of Blu Mar Ten's 'All or nothing'. This remix is a chilled out ride, starting off very airy and ambient, with a nice slow build to a drumstep finish that is masterfully restrained with just the right amount of 'umph'. Pour a cup of coffee and enjoy!
Freddy Todd goes down the Brapbit Hole
Freddy Todd has just released an album, ladies and gentlemen. The title is so long it deserves its own line, but who cares when you have tracks like these involved.
Beautevil is a great track that takes you on a journey and at 7+ minutes long you never get bored. I am a sucker for the middle eastern sounds so right away the intro had me hooked. And even though I was hooked there is always the chance that the track becomes stale and boring. This didn't happen on this one.
SansTopia pairs Feddy with one ill.so.naj whom I really like, so the pairing made me happy. This track is a little more bouncy than Beautevil, and bounce it does. The swith-up at the 2.10 mark is a great change-up and gives the track that much more complexity. Freddy Todd has been in the scene for awhile and he's always got a fresh take on music and genre's as a whole.
So check out the album (found HERE) and check out his Soundcloud page for more of his stuff. It's well worth the time.

Just can't get enough

Big thanks to my friend Javier for showing these guys to me.
Young Magic is a three piece out of NY putting a great twist on indie music.
With spacey effected vocals, a down-tempo drum feel and incredible ambients throughout, Young Magic paints a song-scape that is both delicate and interesting.
S. Maharba's take on "Night In The Ocean" takes those elements to the next level with a beautifully washed out sound that has me hitting play over and over again.
Enjoy!

TYR's electro banger
Gabriel Stark's Married to Molly is a a nice little track in its own right. That was before TYR got hold of it and turned it into a dirt-nasty electro track that gets the dancefloor moving like Stark never would have imagined.
Enjoy on this hump of hump days.
And enjoy TYR's other tracks in his catalogue. There's something for everyone here.

niCo luMinouS unearths Puddle Town
What a great track that popped up recently from niCo luMinouS. The album this is off of, Unearth the Diamond (found HERE), is one that gives the listeners meandering glitch synth lines, chopped up vocals and blapping bass that would sound great in any environment.
This track here, seems to have a little bit of everything in it, and I love it. Even the off-kilter funhouse vibe towards the end makes the track more fun and takes you on a trip from normalcy to weird in less than 5 minutes.
Check out niCo's other sounds on Soundcloud, but do yourself a favor and get his album off of Bandcamp HERE. Its well worth the minimal investment.

HOOKY

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH HOOKY
JAQUES: Hello!
Hooky: Hey manJAQUES: Hello!
DNGR: I guess we will just start with a background? Could you tell us how you got started in music and the direction you feel your music is currently taking?
Hooky: Yea I got really into music when my uncle showed me some Sepultura when I was about 11 and I said "DAYUM!" I just loved the heavy vibes and drums. I then stayed on the metal route for a long time and obviously picked up a guitar and learnt to shred! haha. I then started recording guitar at college and multi-tracking it etc. then I learnt about virtual instruments and said "DAYUUUUMMMM!!" and then got obsessed with production and spent long hours reading and playing really just enjoying it.
Hooky: As for direction I feel that I am still on the long road of discovery, I’m working a lot on my mixdowns at the moment as I feel I haven’t released anything yet that is nicely mixed. But I’m really getting into quicker melody runs and want to make my sound more individual and melodic but with super crazy synth runs up and down the keys because it has so much energy I think.
DNGR: Right on. Yeah I have definitely seen that transition in your material. I was introduced to you a while back with the track When you wake up, and it's been really cool watching the progression.
Hooky: Thanks man, I like to leave all the old stuff to be transparent and so other people can see how a producer progresses and that anyone aspiring to be a producer can see that i used to be rubbish and you can get better haha
JAQUES: So as you were mentioning working harder on the mixdown process, can you (without giving away too many secrets ;) tell us what you are doing differently than before?
Hooky: Spending more time paying attention to each individual sound and EQing it for longer and good practice of reverb and stereo imaging really. Just bought myself a fat book on mixing and there is so much that I do wrong haha
JAQUES: Nice! Yeah we are doing the same thing. I have had loads of luck using iZotope Ozone as a channel strip as well as on the master. Mostly looking at the mixdown process as a totally separate thing. Breaking the project out to stems before even starting. As a live dj, do you find that you produce all of your songs with the ease of live mixing in mind?
Hooky: Definitely for the next couple of releases in the next couple of months that I have got are definitely going to be mix friendly as they are going to be aimed for the dance floor as well and everyone loves an easy track to mix into live, especially me!
DNGR: So in doing the blog writing you start to notice little trends and transitions in the music scene. One the bigger ones is seeing more established producers (especially outside of the U.S.) starting to pull away from the original hard wobble of dubstep to more of a heavy electro sound. Do you still see life left in the heavy dubstep or are you moving past that?
Hooky: I think there are too many trends to keep up with now. I am so lost with it. You seem to have these really different styles of "heavy dubstep" around the world that are influenced by their own countries music scene. Guys coming out of Europe such as MSD, Habstrakt, Eptic, Addergebroed, and The Plesk are killing it with this whole new sound which I think sounds like it may have been influenced more by electro. But you still have other guys doing the wobble stuff which is still heavy and then there’s the American electro sound which loads of crazy synth lines
Hooky: I just think everyone is starting to do their own thing a bit more
JAQUES: Yeah we agree that it is too unknown where bass music will take us in the near future. What do you feel about the explosion in the American EDM scene as of late? Do you feel that "as the water rises so do all the ships" or do you think it will just become diluted pop?
Sorry to ask that one. ;) but it's what everyone is thinking. hahaha
Hooky: That is a great question. And I cannot say. However I will offer my opinion, I think it’s possible it could become diluted but I don’t think that’s a problem because it will still keep developing in other areas and evolve into other genres eventually as it always does but there will still always be this underground culture to dubstep that is perhaps more hidden from the commercial but still has a big following. Like how Pendulum took drum and bass to new commercial heights but drum and bass still has this huge “underground” following and a massive scene and is still progressing as a genre.
DNGR: That's a really great outlook.
So have you always worked as a solo artist or are/where there any duos or side projects you have been a part of?
Hooky: Yea solo mostly apart from when I was in a band in college and when i did a double act weasel wrestling fights as part of a company I was a slave to for four years. I am now working with some vocalists which is cool and I want to collaborate more with other artists as I think you can learn so much from other artists as well and other practices.
DNGR: Absolutely. I really love even in these interviews seeing other peoples take on EDM and production.
JAQUES: So what is coming out next for Hooky fans to look forward to?
Hooky: The Binary EP is out next month which also features a B-side and a remix from MSD of Binary which is awesome. I then will have a few more EPs coming out in the next couple of months ;) After this I will be locking myself away when I finish uni (university) and do nothing but produce music all day everyday so I guess there will be more releases then as well :)
JAQUES: What song of yours do you feel was the "career launcher"? Or was it more of a slow trickle in the build of your success as a producer/dj?
Hooky: I don’t feel like I have had a career launcher yet. I want to though and just want to keep getting better.
DNGR: Well, I really respect your self-view. From this end we are huge fans.
JAQUES: Hey man thank you so much for your time
DNGR: Have a good night
Hooky: Was a great interview nice work lads

Posij drags Noisia through the mud
Noisia's My World, ft. Giovanca is a banger in its own right off of their album Split the Atom. But Posij, a producer signed to Noisia's label and working on an album of his own, took it, drug it through the muddiest and dankest puddle he could find to come up with this gem of a remix.
Giovanca's vocals fade in and out through distortion and chops to make it sound like she is submerged in said muddy puddle.
Yeah I'm a fan of this unique take on a stellar original from Noisia. It's really hard to remix such a great original, but Posij does just that...and with aplomb! Look out for Posij's album and follow his Facebook for more news.

sAuce is one of those producers that puts stuff out on the regular. And believe me, it's not a quantity over quality type of output with this guye. Whether it's bassed out blap or chilled out glitch, he runs the gamut of niceness.
The album that sAuce has recently released contains these various sounds and is done very well. This track here is on the album and I suggest strongly that you pick it up HERE.
This track for example with Mimi Page is one of those tracks that has you singing at the top of your lungs while you're cleaning the house, taking a shower or sitting at a stoplight. It's enough bass and glitch to make the sexy vocals of Page come to life even more. So you want more of sAuce?
Check out his Soundcloud page for a lot more.

Starcadian Sunday chill

Check out this track, Heart, for some Sunday airy chill. And check his Soundcloud page for a few other tracks. He says he will be posting more in the future, and I will be keeping him to that promise. I can't wait to hear what else he has to offer.

Galimatias, a producer out of Denmark, does nothing but produce lushness. Whether it's psyhop, lunar soul or liquid dnb (all tags he's used for his own songs) he does a great job.
Kudos to Tonebreaker who brought this guy to my attention. I didn't ask where he heard of Galimatias, and I don't really care. All I know is that I'm enjoying his work greatly. And if the new discovery for me wasn't enough, Galimatias has a new EP coming out, of which this song is off of.

New Chapter for Protohype
If you've followed the blog for any amount of time recently you'd know we here love us some Protohype. From remixing AC/DC, to producing melodic dubstep to issuing out straight up bangers, they've really hit a chord with us here at Waxhole and, judging from the response, our readers as well.
So it was interesting to see today that one half of Protohype (Sean) will be leaving and focusing on his own project. Protohype will continue to go along and maybe having two projects instead of one will be better for us fans as well as the scene in general.
Either way, it looks to be another chapter in the protohype adventure and I can't wait to hear the new sounds of both old and new. They will be starting a record label, named 8-Bit Syndicate and if the label puts out the same quality as Protohype, then I cannot wait for the first release.
So stay tuned for what's next. I'm definitely intrigued.

Ital Tek with the Friday Freebie
Ital Tek is one of those producers that walks softly but carries a big stick. Ital Tek not only carries that big stick, but he swings it hard.
This track for example is a throw away track for him in the sense that it is not going to be released and therefore up for grabs. Ital Tek's throwaways are better than most people's masterpieces.
Anyway, enjoy this short, but dank track from Ital Tek and check his other sounds to see what you've been missing.

So this might be nostalgia speaking, but Diplo's Bird is The Word re-rub just gets me. I used to listen to this song as a kid all the time because it was crazy awesome and for my dad to have this in his record collection, made it even better.
So how does this track get any better? Diplo gets his dirty filthy hands all over it and turns it into some bouncy greatness. Released as the B-Side of a Single release from Mad Decent it gives us a slice of humor, but yet is still good enough to bounce to. Throwback Thursday lives on

Since the mid 90's J-Live has provided a thoughtful approach on hip-hop lyrics with beats to match.
"Braggin' Writes" was always a song that stood out for me. With heavy scratching, simplified beat, and lyrics that tear apart the hip-hop scene, it was such a solid track.
Dome Cracker did an instrumental version of "Braggin' Writes" as well as a remix with lyrics which was released on the same album.
I just can't get enough of the beat Dome Cracker lays down on this one.
Turn it up and enjoy!

Oh and if you don't know Nosaj Thing, check his official websitee and get edumacated.

Project Aspect takes Tiesto's track Work Hard, Play Hard and turns it from trance to some glitchy lovestep. It's a great tune for this Wednesday afternoon/evening and it winds it down quite nicely. We featured Neus on this blog many moons ago (right'chere) and he's been providing great electronic sounds ever since.
Check out his site, and his Soundcloud page for more of his work. You will not be disappointed.

what a spin

Yes, I have difinitely heard my fare share of Gotye remixes over the last few months.
But I always appreciate when a producer/artist can take elements they like of an original track and spin a completely new story from it.
That is exactly what OWSEY has done with her remix if "Somebody That I Used To Know".
Putting her signature blend of positive swelling synths and airy-downtempo feel, Owsey has taken something that might have felt familiar, and ended up with something completely original.

Twofer Tuesday with Mochipet!
Mochipet appears on Waxhole twice today in two different forms. As a remix artist and as an artist remixed.
The first track is a remix of STS9's track Scheme, a great one in its original form as well. Mochipet adds his signature bass and glitch to it to spice it up on this overly manufactured of holidays.
The second track, though, is nice and lovingly retouched as only Sugarpill can.
So check out their pages; Mochipet's, Sugarpill's and of course STS9's to get a great sample of tunes from all ends of the spectrum.

LOVE DAY
Diplo and Usher drop their Valentines sexy beat with 'Climax'. This one's sure to make the ladies smile with it's 90s R'n'B vibes and silky smooth beats, jam it for the one you love!
Drum and Bass for your Tuesday
Drum and Bass is one of those genres that's kind of in the rear view mirror these days. It had its run but now dubstep is here and taking over. But there are a handful of really great DnB artists out there still making the great tunes and still holding it down for those that really enjoy the genre.
Computerartist is one of those artists that are putting out the quality tracks on the regular and this newest track is no different. It is hard charging, it is aggressive and it is pure heat. While this is a clip, though, but it shows us enough to whet our appetite for more.
We've featured Computerartist on the blog before with his mix of Noisia and Foreign Beggar's Shellshock (posted here) but this is a pure original and it shows his chops.
Check out his page for more tracks from this Czech based producer and get your dnb fix.

Brede's Paragon of Bass
This track is one I've been greedily sitting on for awhile now and waiting for just the right time to unleash it on our readers. Today is cold, cloudy and worst of all...Monday. You need something more than coffee on a day like this, so I'm here to give you that glitch banger any responsible doctor would prescribe.
Brede, a DJ, promoter, producer and overall badass from Austin is part of the Gravitas Recordings collective which has a lot of artists in their stable that have appeared on Waxhole. ONE4All, Cryptex, Blunt Instrument and Digital Connection have all made an appearance (sometimes multiple) and others on their label deserve consideration as well.
So check this track and then check his label for more niceties. Brede's Soundcloud page is chock full of DJ mixes for those that love collecting those (like me!). Oh and there's a nice smattering of originals in there t enjoy as well.

Blapahedrons indeed!
2NUTZ, a duo out of Colorado made up of kLL sMTH and Atomic Reactor have just released an EP entitled Blapahedrons. The EP consists of two tracks created by the duo along with two tracks from each, one original and one each remixed by the other. It's a true collaboration and it's solid all the way around.
You might remember the name, 2NUTZ, as we featured them a few weeks ago (this post here) and when they told me that an EP was coming along shortly I got excited. Blapahedrons dropped and is definitely not a disappointment.
The two songs below are of the pure collaboration variety, but check out Atomic Reactor's and kLL sMTH's tracks and remixes for some more glitchy goodness. Also, check their pages (Atomic Reactor's, kLL sMTH's) for their solo work and some freebies as well!

Nick Thayer: Like Boom
Nick Thayer, a newly minted part of the OWSLA crew (Zedd, Koan Sound, Kill The Noise, Skrillex, Skream, Porter Robinson and others), released his album, Like Boom (found HERE), the other day and it's full of greatness.
Not only is the album full of originals straight from the mind of Thayer, but he has some very interesting remixes as well as collaborations. The two tracks you see below represent a good smattering of what the album is about, but it's only two tracks. It can't tell the whole story.
So check out Nick's page on the OWSLA site, buy the album (again, found HERE), then go to his Soundcloud page and sample what else he has out there and nab some of them freebies!
