Looks like Elliot Mars cranked this one out yesterday.
I must admit, I am a sucker for an old disco song getting a face-lift.
With just the right amount of disco, dubstep, and hard-electro feel, this new take on Silver Connection's 1975 track Fly, Robin, Fly is guaranteed to get summin' shakin'!
Waxholers, I would like to direct your attention to Geoff Bukk and Big Sips. Hailing from Montreal, this dynamic duo has masterfully crafted and released a banging 5 track EP that is being touted as the first fully dubstep inspired hip hop album. I'd like to highlight the track "Nothing like this", as it really nutshells the whole project quiet well. Special thanks to Betamorph and the gents for making this one a freebie as well!
I have been a huge fan of P.O.S. over the years. As a member of the Rhymesayers label, POS blends witty, aggressive story-telling with a new take on hip-hop combining rock/dance elements.
Sleeper Space Born has taken POS's "Been Afraid" a step further by breaking down the originals caustic/aggressive feel, and creating a soulful take which really allows you to digest every word spoken.
Optix is a DJ/producer out of the windy city. Although he looks to be involved with electro house, he has put out some recent bangers that push into the dubstep arena. He maintains melody with rising pads and plucked arpeggios throughout his mixes. As many of you may already know this is a must for me. 100% wobbz=crap sandwich.
Go ahead and add Popeska to the ever growing list of teenage wunderkinds. This kid, at only 19, is producing like an old vet. His track "Brace Yourself" is jam packed with all sorts of funky flair, classic rock samples, 90's pop synths and a slamming bass that does indeed call for a bracing of thyself. It should also be noted that Popeska has made this one a freebie for DL and, according to his facebook, this is his most favorite bass patch that he has created to date. Im really digging what he has put out so far, add him to your radar waxholers!
In the late 90's and well into the 2k's, Ram Trilogy was among the best of the best. D'n'B legends Andy C, Ant Miles and Shimon took the scene by storm with their forward thinking, dark and technical beats, helping form the 'darkstep' style that is so prevalent in today's D'n'B. For Throwback Thursday I have selected my favorite track from the bunch, 'Titan'. It's meandering intro conjures images of far off galaxies, followed by a wonderfully lazy bass line that always reminded me of pacman ghosts for some reason. Turn this one up and enjoy some jams from these legendary producers!
The dynamic duo from Germany, Phace and Misanthrop, are back with an amazing remix of Noisia's classic "Stigma". This time the gents are under the new name "Neosignal", which is also the name of their label. Phace and Misanthrop have been huge innovators in the d'n'b world for many years now, and I find it very exciting that they have started this new music project and are dabbling in the slower tempos. Turn it up up up!
Wanted to share this odd instrumental hip-hop-esque track from the french group Depth Affect.
With a mixture of catchy chopped up vocals, light synth leads and slamming hip hop beats, this track is sure to perk your mood and have you hitting the repeat button.
Vaetxh released an EP with the following two songs along with remixes from such artists as Dead Fader, Subjex and Waxhole favorite Culprate. The two songs you are treated to are glitchy to the utmost, yet Vaetxh does it so well. Bringing the dark yet light elements with a beat that doesn't always flow, reminds me of Aphex Twin with some Photek and u-Ziq thrown in for good measure, yet Vaetxh makes his tracks very uniquely his own. They are almost mini-journeys as beats, melodies and themes seem to fade in and out leaving one wondering what aural Funhouse they stepped into.
Take your trip, and remember, always follow the white rabbit down the yellow brick road while taking the blue pill.
As if the track Mass wasn't good enough, check the video as well. The stark black and white schematic feel of the video works well with the glitched out effects Vaetxh uses extensively.
Blunt Instrument a duo from the Isle of The 'Roo are a duo who have been quietly putting out some outstanding glitch hop that gets the head bobbin' with regularity.
Another group that has a good sized catalogue of freebies to enjoy while you contemplate purchasing those solid tracks actually for sale (here is one place for instance).
I challenge anyone to not bob along to this track while they listen. It's damned near impossible.
Merry Christmas to our Waxhole readers that celebrate Christmas and Merry Sexy Sunday to everyone regardless of holiday affiliations. And while everyone is opening presents and imbibing on too much of that sweet sweet egg nog (I actually hate the stuff, but it seems to be a favorite for everyone else, so what do I know) Waxhole is still bringing the music for you to enjoy.
This installment of Sexy Sunday is brought to you by a British producer by the name of Stumbleine. No matter what Stumbleine does, from remixing to originals, it is always chilled greatness. In order to demonstrate this point, I included an original and a remix (plus, I couldn't decide which one to post, so I took the easy way out and chose both). Both of these tracks are ones you listen to while the rain sheets down on the windows and the warmth of the bed and the one beside you is just too comfy to leave. These tracks are not to be listened to as a one-off, but rather to enjoy over and over again. They get better with every play.
One of my favorite artists out there is Ben Samples. He's not a complete unknown in the community, but he's really done a good amount of remixes, originals and collaborations that have been top notch and largely unnoticed.
Once again Ben Samples puts out a class remix, this time of an Alpha Data track that brings out all the lazer bass Ben is known for. Sit back, enjoy and most importantly let your booty clap along.
Flume is a young buck from Australia at 20 years of age. This is not his first appearance here on Waxhole and it certainly won't be his last. He consistently brings quality tracks so show him some love and urge him to keep up the good work.
First up is a recent remix followed by a year old unreleased track!
Propa Tingz is a big favorite of all of us here at Waxhole and he's just dropped a great track featuring a nice lyricist Klepto Maddox. This track'll have you breakin your neck, bitin' that lower lip and snarlin' in the most feral ways. Nasty and dank, the track has all the goodness of wubs, rap and glitch to satisfy those of all genres....except maybe Nu Disco. Those cats might not enjoy it as much.
At any rate, this track is just one among many great ones from Propa Tingz. Buy up everything in his catalogue (yeah I did say 'Buy' you cheap bastards) and you will not be disappointed.
My throwback Thursday jam comes to you from The Prodigy's debut album "Experience" (1992).
Instead of digging through soundcloud looking for a version of this song that has not been remixed, I opted to share the original video for this track which is just as much fun as the song itself.
Featuring samples from the classic reggae track "I Chase the Devil" by Max Romeo and Kool Keith's notorious line "I'll take your brain to another demension", this throwback is sure to have your head bobbing to the beat and a grin on your face.
My throwback selection for this Thursday is a fantactic dark jump-up banger from Aquasky. This track was produced in collaboration with MC Six-Too, and is one of the few fully versed colabs that I can think of from this point in time(2001). This one was an awesome set opener, as it set the mood just right for some d'n'b mayhem. Jam it good folks, it still holds it's own!
The mid-90's were a confusing time for us fans of electronic music. There were a few established artists in many genres, but many artists were subdued to being one-hit club wonders hard to find unless you bought up every Dance Compilation CD/Record in the store. But those established artists you always looked for when you first walked into the record store were few and far between.
DJ Aphrodite was one of those for me. His forays into Drum and Bass and Jungle were what I followed moreso than the Goldie's and Roni Size's of the scene. The following tracks were two that were in heavy rotation for me back in the day. Hard to believe these were released 15 and 16 years ago.
The first track was one that he remixed of NIN. At the time I was a huge NIN Head and so this remix brought together two of my favorite artists. And while I would have let some mediocrity slide due to his great choice of an artist to remix, the track was truly banging. The second track was actually the first track I and many others in the scene were introduced to Aphrodite with. This track had me hooked and I've been along for the ride ever since.
Wick-it the Instigator must be in the holiday spirit this morning, as he's uploaded a brand new 13 track set of remixes and mash-ups. This thing is packed full of funky swag and jamming beats. i totally dig the hint of flavor from the works of Tarantino. Grab all of this!! Grab it real good.
SU:FX has been hard at work as always, bangin' out the bangers. We've got not one, but two uploads from the man himself this Friday. The biggest surprise this go around is that both are in a new tempo and style. What isn't a surprise is that both have been lovingly crafted with that special SU:FX flavor that we have all come to love around here. Jam 'em loud and grab the Dls!
I got turned onto this one while perusing Deadelus's new material.
City Kids (ft. Dirtyphonics) off of Mustard Pimp's debut album "No Title or Purpose" provides a nice blend of house and electro that he has dubbed "dirty pimp".
Happy Friday fellow Waxholers! I'd like to direct your attention to an amazing producer by the name of Culprate. Hailing from Watford, Britain, Culprate's sounds are technically driven and often defy categorization. Influences from dubstep, trip and glitch hop are apparent, and wonderfully melded into a sound that is truly unique. His latest release "5 Star EP" is slated to drop on Christmas Day. This EP is a thing of beauty, especially the the track "My Rock". Keep an eye on this guy, he's poised to blow up in a major way!
2001 was a fantastic year for d'n'b. The intelligent, dark and techy side was really starting to take off and carve out a good space for itself. It was during 2001 that Stakka & Skynet released Clockwork. Decoy is by far my favorite track from the album, and is my pick for Throwback Thursday. This banger still packs one of the best intros ever. Jam it!
Stakka & Skynet - Decoy by tiste
Adventure Club consistently brings tracks that are smeared with beautiful melodies. With dubstep that is something which is hard to find and is a must for me.
Halifax, Britain's own Emperor (isn't that almost like being the King of Tupelo or the Queen of Des Moines?) comes with the ruckus on a Monday where it was plainly needed. This drum and bass, without the stereotypical dnb drum sample, comes at you with a bit of wobble, a lot of bass and some disparate vocal samples that serve to keep the listener guessing what's around the next corner.
Emperor's catalog waffles between dubstep and dnb, but what always seems to stay constant is his ability to make some outstanding tracks, never sacrificing the song for a few given elements of the genre just for their own sake. Oh and by the way, the dude is a teenager. Now wrap your head around that as you listen to this great track.
Monday has greeted me with a wall of new tunage from good old Soundcloud. The best of the bunch is easily this Tasha Baxter remix by Culprate and Twist. I really dig the lightly glitched intro, leading you with ease into some serious crunch factor with the drop. Jam this one nice and loud and be sure to grab the free DL in the description!
Once again, The S has laid their s-nasty s-funk all over another song.
This remix of Skrillex's "All I Ask Of You" stood out to me as a great Monday morning jam with it's heavy/happy synth leads.
Looks like this one still has several downloads available as well, so grab 'em while they are there! (UPDATE: The S just posted they are buying the Pro-Soundcloud account so there will be unlimited downloads on this one!)
Hope to share a lot more from these guys. I just absolutely love everything they get their hands on!
Anneka, a chilled out songstress from Brighton, UK, issued a competition a few months ago for an acapella track of hers. What came about as the winner is submitted here.
Lucas Garcia uses washed out vocals, mellow guitar and lovely atmosphere to make this track one to enjoy while recovering from a hangover or getting down with that special someone...or just the guy/girl from last night who actually stayed for breakfast.
Both Anneka and Garcia have great tracks in their own right and their catalogs are well worth the perusal.
Polish Ambassador, a burgeoning star in the indie dance/electronic scene has been churning out the great remixes with regularity. Remixing artists that range from AZ (that's the rap artist, not the state), Manu Chao to even George Michael. We here at Waxhole have more than a few favorites of his, but the newest remix is one of chilled greatness.
Taking a track of Bon Iver, an indie band that is on the lips of every soccer mom and Hollywood record executive due to their recent Grammy nominations (one of which is for best New Artist..which is about 4 years tardy for the band whose first album dropped in 2007), and spinning it into strands of sweet sugary sexy with a track that is good enough to either start your Sunday morning off right, or even end a raucous Saturday night out. Either way, this track was a no-brainer for Sunday Sexy.
Cut & Paste (ft. Airwolf) is the newest release for Australian based electric duo Trumpdisco.
In the past few years these guys have pumped out some amazing remixes for artists like Phoenix, Yolanda Be Cool, Haezer, and Fat Boy Slim (and many more).
So kick back, turn it up, and enjoy this stanky electro track.
Hey Guys! We wanna hear from you. Let us know what you think of the song, what kinda music you wanna hear more of, or even just how we're doing. Just click the comment link beloooowwwwww..
For Throwback Thursday I bring one of my all time favorite face melters that I used to love to climax a set with. The original is fantastic but Klute really came with the heat on this one.
And for that new. Kill Them With Colour Has made some positively amazing remixes and originals. This one is no exception.
My throwback-Thursday selection comes from the 90's breakbeat group Olive.
Aside from the fact that I just flat out love this song, this was one of the first dance-based artists that I was introduced to as a youngin.
Hailing from 1996, "You're not alone" was one of the biggest hits for Olive, a great introduction if you are new to this artist, or just a reminder of dance music past for the rest of us.
We here at Waxhole have decided that there is way to awesome of a back catalog of bangers, shakers and groovers to leave out of the mix. So today I have the pleasure of introducing Throwback Thursday! I've decided to start things off with a d'n'b classic from 1999, the year Ed Rush and Optical released Bacteria. To me, Bacteria took the genre a HUGE leap forward, with it's growling, grumbling reese. I clearly remember playing this track over and over in awe of the movement and life that had been infused in the bass line. At almost 13 years old it still packs a punch, jam it!
Saw this video come up today for Creep's new song "Animals" (feat. Holly Miranda) and was blown away. Did a little hunting and found a Robot Koch remix they did of their song "You" so I thought I would share both!
Barretso has to be one of my favorite vocal driven nu-disco acts (yes I put 'em right up there with the Palomo powerhouse that is neon indian/ghosthustler/vega).
Another great act on the TUFFEM UP! label, Barretso (Francisco) is nu-disco singer/producer out of Chile. Signed as their first international artist.
Check out this kickass track and a remix done by REDIAL (another member of the TUFFEM UP! family).
While searching for a Bonobo song I came across this remake of Kiara.
Sound Medik infuses just the right amount of glitchy electro feel to really bring this Bonobo track up a notch, while keeping the original beauty of the song.
Definitely digging this one and the rest of Sound Mediks work!
I don't know how Xaphoon Jones keeps doing it. He has made some of the most gorgeous remixes I have heard in a long while and keeps them fresh to boot. This next joint is a very uplifting and positive wave of goodness that leaves me totally happy about the fact that, I too, am a dreamer.
Gramatik and Break Science team up to lay down the funk with this amazing Earth Wind and Fire remix. It's always nice to hear classics re-imagined and refreshed by the best. Be sure to snag the free DL while you're jammin' this!
Bringing you a track I've been jamming for awhile now that is sexy, smooth with just the right amount of drums. This remix by Pawnsounds, a producer/DJ from San Francisco of a fellow Bay Area artist, Goapele, shows that this soul hit has another, more danceable side to it.
While Goapele is an underrated, but solid soul artist, Pawn is also one that has many great tracks of a more electronic nature to choose from. Both artists should be checked out for their own unique sounds forthwith.
Gotta love when the right track shows up at the right time.
I was sifting through my music collection for something to fit my mellow mood, when a friend (skintwerx) dropped this one in my lap. Now I can't stop listening to it!
What an awesome week for music it has been! Today SU:FX dropped this BANGER on me from The McMash Clan. Check out the superb execution of taking an old school classic and giving it a new school makeover. It's obvious these guys put a lot of love into this one, jam it loud and make sure to grab the free DL!
Hooky has remained one of my absolute favorite dubstep artists. Simple because he is a master at finding the perfect balance between heavy breakdowns, and gentle intricate melodies. Hooky's newest release "Fallin" is a perfect example of just that.
