Truth is doing it every time these days. Doing it by submitting for our listening enjoyment the deep, and sub rumbling dubstep we all came to love before the bro-step invasion. The duo from New Zealand drop the occasional tunes and whenever they do, they make the floorboards vibrate and the barstools migrate.
This tune right here, features a vocalist by the name of Yayne. Not always employing vocals, nor a vocalist this one is a little bit different and I absolutely love it. It's yet another example of how these guys can make different layers, textures and dynamics work so well.
So follow Truth (Soundcloud, Facebook) and cop this great two-track EP off of Tempa Records (HERE). This kind of tuneage is absolutely worth those few coppers.
I've got a sickness. A fever, if you will, and the only cure is more Aaliyah. I don't know if I appreciated the fantastic Aaliyah as much as I should've when she was still with us, but I know one thing, I sure as hell can't say no to anything of hers today. So when one of my favorite remix masters decided to put his hand on her tune If Your Girl Only knew I was all over it. 5 listens in and I'm still loving it.
You know Woody's Produce and you know how he's great at taking some masters of the game and turning their classics into gems that are nice and fresh today. This tune is no different and I secretly wish/hope that he took on Aaliyah like he took on Biggie and Outkast. Man that'd be dope, huh? Lets get a petition started!
At any rate, follow the good dude of Woody's Produce (Soundcloud, Facebook) and show him some love for this and others of his canon.
It's Friday and it's time to get rowdy. So yeah that means it's time to get onto some great hip hop sounds. Jonwayne, Je$u$ (remixin that classic Black Rob), Glyphick The Overthinker (with guests), Damn Heathen, and Nas (remixed by the man Sixfingerz) and Julian Malone off of Stones Throw Records provide your hip hop soundtrack for today and into the weekend.
Whatever tunes you dig, follow their Soundcloud links below and show them some love.
For those who are just waking up to their Friday, have at some chill vibes. Yeah it is Friday, but you still have to get through the day, and you can't do it without coffee or music, and we can only provide you with one. Although we'd be happy to make you a cup if you came over for a visit.
Whatever the case, these joints will get you movin so you do your listenings, then do your downloadings, then do your followings so you can show your lovings.
Big huge mega fans of Project Mooncircle here, and yet THIS album passed me by. It happens and I've kicked holes in mine own shins because of how often this occurs. Anyway, better late than never, right?
Ok so Pavel Dovgal, you know him from past posts, and he's now released an album on Bandcamp featuring many of the Project Mooncircle family we know and love, like Robot Koch, Graciela Maria, John Lamonica with copious input from Philip Saulin of to make this stunning album. It's more of a meandering concept album in that there are styles and sounds as disparate as the Bedouin cultures that the album is named after. However, the one overwhelming aspect of it all is that it's well-crafted and worth listening to front and back at least one time. Ambient, to indie rock, this album brings together so much that you might not realize you're listening to the same composer.
The goal of this album release (HERE) is to raise money for Greenpeace and the WWF (Wildlife fund, NOT the Wrestling Federation, knuckleheads), so enjoy this album, and purchase for a few coppers, yeah? Supporting the music is always worth it, but supporting organizations like these is also as rewarding.
It's no secret that I am a huge fan of the South African music scene. For never even being on the continent, it's always been a strained long distance affair, fraught with being the last to know on some things (Did you know that Dank was also Sedge Warbler!?!? I know!!) and being only and audio observer, rather than a physical observer, you can never make the same parties and can only look at the pics on Facebook of them all having fun and you're stuck halfway around the world. Long distance relationships are hard, yo! But even though my buds over there in SA forgot to tell me about this awesome monthly event that's been going on since March, I found out anyway. And I'm sure glad I did, because it's an event that I can fully get behind.
You've heard of the Team Supreme weeklies that pit different producers against each other using the same sample or tune as the foundation. Like an Iron Chef for beat makers, and this one is a variation of that. Button Bashers is bringing together everyone in the SA scene to compete and show off their skills and skills there are plenty! I was just going to introduce you to the most recent competition held back on May 3, but I know there are those who might read this post so I'll be detailing the previous two as well. Plus, the jams from the first two need to be detailed.
As with any competition there has to be a winner even though there's quality everywhere. This competition is no different as for the May competition, there were some very very good entries.
DJ Maramza won the competition with his entry below, and it is clear why. Using a Chinese instrumental sample, Maramza (Soundcloud, Facebook) inserted his own bluesy samples and vibe to really get a slow burnin banger that you might see in a Chinese variation of a Mississippi juke joint, whatever that might be.
Then we have the guys who placed, but didn't win, Life Magic, Desert Head and J One. I really liked Life Magic's and J One's as stand alone tunes, whereas Desert Head's entry would sound ace with an MC like Roots Manuva or Quasimoto. You be the judge and see which one you think should be the winner. Then go to the Button Bashers Soundcloud and Facebook and tell them, and more than anything, show them some love. Cannot wait til the next event!
Three remixes here from three artists that really deserve their own feature. But with this quality there will be in the future, believe me.
Karma Kid (Soundcloud, I.V. (Soundcloud, Facebook) and Jeftuz (Soundcloud, Twitter) all deserve your love. These tunes aren't their only tricks in their bag, so follow and show 'em some love.
Easy Girl is officially out of retirement, folks. After a hiatus to work on producing an album for another band, Easy Girl came back to us electronic lovin' fans with his Houses remix (HERE) a few weeks ago. Now, with this tune he's back with another solid remix, and it feels so good to be able to count on stellar-ness from the man out of LA.
Ok so who thought The Dillinger Escape Plan would be a great recipient of an electronic tinged remix? Yeah well Easy Girl took your misgivings and turned them into this wonderful tune.
This official remix is one of the first I've heard from Easy Girl to employ such a massive sound and to such a beautiful effect. True this tune is of the softer side of the new album from TDEP, but even so it still is a far cry from those bands that find themselves remixed into an indie electronic gem. The original sounds a little Faith No More, and the remix sounds so much like Easy Girl and I love it all.
So check this tune and if you can't hang with the band, then this remix will tide you over quite nicely. If you are, you'll find a great companion piece to the original.
So check this tune follow Easy Girl (Soundcloud, Facebook), and pick up this tune (HERE) forthwith!
Soulular is at it again. His special brand of downtempo bass that he's made his own comes back for a 7 track EP through our friends at Gravitas Records. Featuring elements of glitch, trip hop and lovestep, the bass never leaves you and the vibes are always laid back and chill.
Soulular, aka Jeff Laos out of the LA area has been busy the past 6 months. Singles, EPs and collabs have all been dropping with regularity even while he's been gigging as Festival Season starts ramping up.
Below you see three tracks I've picked out as my favorites, so go HERE to pick up the EP and hear more in this same vein. And do your followings of Soulular (Soundcloud, Facebook) for more great tunes and vibes.
